Grab a Keyboard and State Your Opinion with the MySpace Forums

from: Glenn Cutforth

Stating your opinion among friends and strangers has never been as easy as it is now that MySpace is around. A social networking website, MySpace invites any and all users to create a personal webpage with pictures, video, interests, and other personal information. This webpage is then the leaping-off point for meeting new friends and sharing with old friends. Many people use MySpace to expand their social network by meeting the friends of other friends, matching up their friends with other people they’ve met on MySpace, and hunting down potential business associates.

Musicians, filmmakers, and other artists also use the popular website to post their latest art for viewing and feedback. If you are looking to discuss issues, share ideas, or ask questions to like-minded people, the MySpace Forums are the place for you.

MySpace is free and available to anyone with access to the Internet. Remarkably, after just a few years running, the 106 millionth MySpace.com account was opened on September 8, 2006. Nearly 250,000 new members join daily, making MySpace one of the most popular websites in the world. The number of forums for discussion on MySpace is endless.

You can reach the Forum Section of MySpace via the company’s homepage. Simply find the Forum link along the top toolbar. You need not be a member of MySpace to view the listing of forums on Myspace, although you must join in order to post on the forums. Once there, you will find a listing of the MySpace forums by category. There are a total of 21 forum categories, including the following diverse subjects: Business and Entrepreneurs; Campus Life; Culture, Arts, and Literature; Food and Drink; Health and Fitness; News and Politics; Religion and Philosophy; and Travel and Vacations. Each of the forums is a chat room, in which you can state your opinion on different topics.

The number of individual topics within each of these forums is quite surprising; there is no doubt that anyone could find a place to express his or her opinions using the forum function on MySpace. For example, the Automotive category has a total of 36,314 distinct topics, the Campus Life forum is home to 16,152 individual topics, and the Computers and Technology forum discusses 31,796 topics.

Once you’ve chosen a forum in which to participate, you then, as discussed above, have thousands of choices of topics. The Business and Entrepreneurs forum is host to four sub-categories, which each have thousands of topics and thousands of posts among them. The sub-categories are Money, General, Stocks, and Business. Within the Culture, Arts, and Literature category, you will find four sub-categories: Arts, Cultural Events, General, and Literature.

The Games forum has five sub-categories (Board Games, Role Playing Games, Video Games, General, and Everything Else) with a total of 500,000 posts. You will find that the forum are frequented by an enormous number of people -- a foreign language forum has nearly 1,500 posts whereas the general forum for film makers has over 60,000 posts.. By clicking on a forum topic, you can read posts, reply to posts, quote posts, and send an email or instant message to another poster.

With thousands and thousands of MySpace forums, you are bound to find a gathering of like-minded people with whom you can share opinion, new ideas, and controversial issues. As you are taking part in these forums, however, it is important to remember that one of the major criticisms about MySpace and other online social networks is that their virtual nature tends to embolden people to share more and offend more than they would in a non-virtual environment. When sharing your opinions on MySpace forums, be respectful of others and help create a positive environment where everyone will feel safe to take part.
