Different Ways You Can Use MySpace Effectively

from: Glenn Cutforth

MySpace may be meant as an online community for social networking but there are other ways it can be successfully used as well. Let us take a look at how you can get this popular social networking giant working for you.

If you have your own blogs or write for a variety of them, you can put your MySpace page to work helping you promote them. The more friends you have the better but even if you start out with only a few, become an avid joiner of online groups where you can meet people with similar interests as yours and similar in relation to your blogs.

Another way is to become a part of "MySpace Whore Trains" or simply "MySpace Trains." This will allow you to add people from the trains to your friends list at your MySpace profile, which will gain you greater exposure for the writing you do at your blogs. The downside to this is that spam is more common the more "train friends" you add to your friends list. This is often a good way to network though as people you meet from the trains will send you notices and bulletins that will lead you to other avenues of exposure. Two excellent trains to get you started include friendfleet.com and msfan.com.

Be aware that friends can add up quickly. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. There are people who only do it once a week or once every two weeks for 15 to 20 minutes at a time and end up with 100 new friends or more. MySpace has the right to limit how many new friends you bring to your site per day and if you go over the amount they will set a cap, so don't go overboard by any means.

MySpace can help you promote to the best of your ability by making it possible for you to send out bulletins to all of the friends on your list. Include in the bulletins individual blog entries that you feel would be the most useful to friends. Some examples include information about MySpace pre-made layouts, templates, HTML codes, FAQ's and so on. Sending out bulletins that contain codes with your banner in it is an excellent idea as is gearing your group bulletin boards to niche groups for your blog such as if you write for a cooking blog gear it towards a cooking group, etc.

Posting comments to our member's MySpace pages is another way to use your MySpace effectively for promotional purposes. Leave your signature in a forum for example or your banner in a comment post. Sending bulletins to everyone listed on your friends list is believed to be one of the most effective ways to promote your blogs.

Some people swear by the bulletins to friends approach to promote their blogs. For example some members find that one bulletin sent to a thousand friends can generate anywhere from 50 to 100 hits to a given blog.

Promoting any business on your MySpace page is fine but keep in mind the website was designed as a personal avenue for social networking and is non-commercial in its ways. The administrators at the site recognize the difference between a MySpace page that was set up for commercialization purposes and one that simply makes reference to a particular service or product and makes a link to the item available to interested parties.

Before you go ahead and promote your business by way of MySpace make sure you carefully review the terms of service so you don't overstep your bounds and cause your membership to be in jeopardy.
