The Top FAQ's for MySpace Revisited

from: Glenn Cutforth

MySpace is an extremely popular website among young people, however, when newbies first arrive at the site they find they have a lot of questions. Let's take a look at some of the top FAQ's (frequently asked questions) for MySpace.com.

What exactly is MySpace.com?

MySpace.com is an online, interactive social networking site that got its start in Santa Monica, California in 2003. It's a free site to use and members are provided with there own web page from which they can build a profile and post pictures telling others about whom they are. Most people like to discuss their interests and talk about the type of individuals they would like to become acquainted with at the site. MySpace offers e-mail service as well as an opportunity to add your own background music, design, graphics and blogs.

Why would someone want to create a profile at MySpace?

Maybe you willl but perhaps you won't. Becoming a member of MySpace means you can interact and social with your current friends and make new friends as well who share some of the same interests, hopes, dreams, fears and concerns as you do. MySpace is all about hanging out in virtual time.

What exactly does HTML code mean?

HTML stands for "Hypertext Markup Language" and it's basically the page layout, font and graphics that serves as the formula to build a website. MySpace utilizes HTML just as many other websites do. The administrators at MySpace do the writing aspect of HTML however if you wish to include photos, layouts and videos at your web page you'll need to learn how to effectively cut and paste HTML code.

There is such a thing as a MySpace friend -- what does that mean?

MySpace members have the option of adding people they want to a friends list at their web page. There's a list of top friends and you can add either a quantity of 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 friends to your top friends list. Once added, friends can choose to post comments to your web page, your photo gallery and your blogs.

Is it possible to edit comments on my web page that I don't want to remain there?

Absolutely. If you wish to get rid of comments left by friends you can delete them. You can also choose to delete people's names from your friends list if for example, they have become frustrating or a nuisance to you.

Is it necessary to be 18 or older in order to register for an account at MySpace?

You don't have to be 18 years of age to register at MySpace. The youngest you are allowed to be to start is 14. MySpace does have a rule that adults over 18 are not permitted to view the personal profiles of members who are younger than them.

How am I able to go from having a dull white background or layout at my web page to a color I like better?

There is two ways of going about this. You can do a search on a search engine such as Google for sites that make pre-made layouts for MySpace available in HTML code or you can design your own layout by way of a MySpace editor such as the Thomas Editor for example, which is very easy to use and is also popular among members. Of the two options, most people feel the former is the simpler of the two.

How do I go about placing music on my homepage?

This is relatively easy to do. At the top section of MySpace you'll see a spot marked "Music." Click this on and it will take you to a variety of selections of bands and songs. When you find a song that interests you click on "Add." By default this is the song that will play as your background music.
