Keep in Touch with Cinema Events with the Films Section of MySpace

from: Glenn Cutforth

If you are looking to keep in touch with cinema events, the Films Section of MySpace may be the new hot place for you. MySpace is a social networking website that encourages people to meet and share with other members throughout the world. In addition, the website has web pages related to cinema, videos, and music to help its members stay in touch with the latest in the entertainment industry. The website is free for members and is funded by advertisements, many of which come from movie producers -- another tool for you to be the first in your group of friends to know what's going on in the movie industry.

MySpace has become known for its popularity with celebrities, musicians, and film makers themselves, who enjoy sharing their works in progress with such a wide audience. Including these artists, MySpace enjoys visits from upwards of 100 million members, with an additional 230,000 new people joining every day. Such popularity has made the website one of the most popular in the world. The company is owned by media giant News Corporation, which also owns the Fox Network.

You can reach the Films Section of MySpace via the company's homepage. Simply find the Films link along the top toolbar. You need not be a member of MySpace to view the Films section on Myspace. Once there, you will find a listing of the MySpace Featured Filmakers. Today, the featured events Mischief Night, a “fun, frantic, and hilarious” British film, Iraq for Sale, a movie about the profiteers of Iraq, Family Vilikati, a story about orphans surviving together in Africa, and Red State, a documentary journey through the 2004 red-voting states.

For each featured event, you can view the related profile page. These profile pages generally include information about the film maker, links to view the film, reviews of the film, and comments from other MySpace members. There is also a place to post comments about the film.

The MySpace Films Section also has a Pick of the Week chosen by Filmmaker Magazine. The pick of the week includes links to the recommended films, as well as a link to become a friend of Filmmaker Magazine. You'll find links to top MySpace forums related to film, where you can discuss topics, share ideas, and ask questions to other movie buffs and film makers. Another opportunity for exploring cinema events is the Screening This Week section of the Films page.

Here you'll be able to watch featured screenings, many of which you can discuss the film with its maker. Finally, the Films Section offers exclusive clips from some of the industry's top studios. You can see clips of the hottest films before your friends!

The MySpace Films Section also provides you with a means to search for particular film makers, view a list of top film makers, screenings, and film maker forums. You can search for films based on keyword, location, film roles, awards won, influences, directors, festivals, and professional affiliations. You can also search the film maker classified ads, where you may find a role in a film or a job at a video production company. You can also join an exclusive group of other MySpace film makers.

MySpace is a panacea for virtual socialites, offering many options for lovers of films or makers of films. You'll have many opportunities to watch the latest in cinema, discuss movies with like-minded people, including the film makers themselves, and get hot tips about the hottest movies heading to the theaters. You never know -- you may even find yourself a job in the movies.
